UX Content Strategist

The Product team works closely integrated with other NYC Opportunity teams, including the development, design, and data teams. It also engages with other program and technology staff across City government. The team helps NYC Opportunity and our agency partners translate anti-poverty program and policy goals into digital strategies. The team also helps define how the City of New York uses modern, agile and user-centric approach to technology products, including offering product management best practices.

The UX Content Strategist will work across a diverse product team of engineers, product managers, designers and business analysts and leads the content strategy for NYC Opportunity’s products and services. In collaboration with the product team, you work with City and community stakeholders to create accessible user-centered content and help the team and our partners improve (or develop) their content practices, as well as promote content best practices across government.


  • Lead user-centered content strategy and implementation for new products and services, including content audits, information architecture, site mapping, copywriting, style guides, templates and priority guides, and content maintenance processes.
  • Analyze content performance (program guides, landing pages, newsletters, interface copy, etc) using metrics, user feedback, and other research channels to develop insights and recommendations for improvements and continuous iteration.
  • Design and execute user experience sessions (workshops, activities, interviews, etc.) with New Yorkers and other stakeholders to understand and validate content needs, useability/readability, and improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and iterate on content processes and models.
  • Provide plain-language training and support.
  • Consult on and support other officewide projects.
  • Promote content best practices by writing blog posts, creating and contributing to toolkits, and doing presentations.

Technical and design fluency to support product vision and development.

Prototyping user experiences skills through web development using: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, front-end development frameworks, and prototyping tools.

  Education and Experience

Master’s degree and at least 1 year of relevant work experience


Bachelor’s degree and at least 3-4 years relevant work experience.

The salary range for this position is $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
