Data Products Management Fellow

The Product Team centers the needs of New Yorkers, and works alongside city agencies and partners to use technology to improve service delivery. Our work includes:

The team also helps inspire and shape how the City of New York uses modern, agile and user-centric approaches to build technology products.

The Data Products Management Fellow will focus on supporting the office’s data products, which includes EquityNYC, the Workforce Data Portal,and an in-development tool to visualize the City’s poverty data.

EquityNYC is a tool that describes the state of racial and social equity in New York City, and the City’s work to address disparities.

The Workforce Data Portal features data and deep dives on the City’s workforce development system, pulling together core metrics on program participation and outcomes across agencies.

The poverty tool will allow users to interact with the NYCgov poverty measure to show how poverty impacts different groups and how benefits programs and expenses affect poverty.

  Responsibilities

The Product Management Fellow will work alongside the team to:

  • Support communications with stakeholders and agency partners.
  • Support the Data Scientists in cleaning, analyzing, and uploading data.
  • Support Product Manager and Data Scientists in developing data strategy.
  • Develop written materials to communicate data findings and highlight current projects and initiatives.
  • Work with the Product Manager, UX Designers, Content Strategist and Engineers to plan and facilitate sprints.
  • Plan and perform site / application quality assurance.
  • Review and organize user feedback, turning it into actionable items for the team to work on.
  • Prepare analytics reports using quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Produce and maintain product documentation: backlog, product specs, tickets, wikis, etc.

Commitment to the mission of advancing greater equality and opportunity through best-in-class digital products and human-centered design practices in government.

Ability to develop metrics and produce reports for products and initiatives. Knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Looker Studio.

Experience with cleaning and organizing datasets, analyzing data, and communicating findings.

Technical and design fluency to support product vision and development.

Ability to turn user research insights and data into new product features or enhancements.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

[Optional] Familiarity with coding languages, particularly R or Python.

  Education and Experience

Fellowships are open to current college or graduate students and recent graduates (or equivalent) with preferred work experience in these disciplines: product management and development, data analysis and communications, content design and management, civic tech, public policy, and social impact.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to provide sponsorship to fellows.

  Compensation and Schedule

The fellowship pay rate is $27.50/per hour.

This is a full-time (35 hrs/week) hybrid position for 6 months with a contingent option to extend. Our office is located in Downtown Brooklyn.
