Product Management Fellow

Product Management Fellows work on the Product and Technology team alongside our Product Managers, Content Specialists, Business Analysts, Product Designers, and Engineers to support our current and growing portfolio of digital products and services.

Fellowships are paid six-month positions for four-to-five days per week. Fellows will be coached and learn about product development in government, while contributing to work that impacts millions of New Yorkers.

This Fellowship is being offered in collaboration with the Digital Impact and Governance Initiative at New America. NYC Opportunity and New America are working together on the deployment of an open source pilot project to streamline the application and eligibility process for public benefits.


Based on your skills and interests, responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to product strategy and success metrics, including crafting product goals, monthly analytics, roadmaps, and more.
  • Assist with vendor and stakeholder management.
  • Assist in product development sprints —working to assure sprint items are delivering value and to specification.
  • Participate in the development and execution of quality assurance (QA) testing of products.
  • Assist in defining feature and functionality requirements.
  • Participate in user research and synthesis.
  • Assist in the creation of prototypes, design assets, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate in the creation of product development and management documents, including roadmaps, project briefs, and user stories.
  • Contribute to content design and development, including drafting new content, editing existing content, and managing the translation process.

Understands product development with empathy.

Previous experience with product management, project management, or content design and management involving the design and development of technology projects.

Experience in product marketing research and user research.

Ability to develop metrics and produce reports for products and initiatives.

Ability to turn user research insights and data into new product features or enhancements.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

Technical and design fluency to support product vision and development.

Interest in using plain language to help residents access and interact with government services.

Commitment to the mission of advancing greater equality and opportunity.

  Education and Experience

Fellowships are open to current college or graduate students and recent graduates with an interest in these disciplines: product management and development, content design and management, civic tech, public policy, and social impact.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to provide sponsorship to fellows.

  Benefits and Compensation

The hourly rate for the fellowship is $22/hr and does not offer health benefits.
