Content and Communications Advisor

The Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity (NYC Opportunity) works to reduce poverty and broaden opportunity by advancing the use of data and evidence in program and policy design, service delivery, and budget decisions. We partner with the Mayor’s Office for Talent and Workforce Development to manage a growing portfolio of workforce products including Working NYC, a website with information about workforce programs / services and employment opportunities for job seekers. The next phase of work will focus on continuous user experience enhancements to Working NYC and the launch of a front door for employers.

The Content and Communications Advisor is responsible for maintaining accessible, updated, and actionable web content on our workforce products for NYC residents who are looking to connect to workforce opportunities. You'll work with other members of our product team which includes product managers, designers, developers, and fellows.

This is a full-time, contract position with benefits for one year.


  Responsibilities

  • Leading the content strategy of digital products including the NYC Talent Portal, driving content design, and conducting user tests to validate design decisions.
  • Developing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders in and outside of City government for the purpose of maintaining accurate and up-to-date web content.
  • Designing taxonomies to categorize a wide range of workforce programs.
  • Working with product designers and software engineers to implement designs and content templates within a CMS.
  • Performing content audits and evaluating web analytics for trends that can be turned into actionable insights. and presenting this information to the team and external stakeholders.
  • Communicating changes to Workforce Development programs, policies, and services to the team on a regular basis.
  • Create style guides in collaboration with NYC Talent content team.

Experience working closely with communities who are engaging with public services and programs and/or has lived-experience engaging with public services and programs.

Experience in policy, government or non-profit, in particular with low-income and vulnerable youth and families is a plus.

2-3 years of professional experience in copywriting, communications, content design, content strategy or related experience.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

Interest and/or experience in human centered design.

Can organize work for yourself and delegate tasks to others.

Familiarity or willingness to learn data analysis methods and tools like Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, and Google Tag Manager.

  Benefits and Compensation

This is a full-time, contract position with benefits for one year.

The total compensation package with benefits is $100,000 - $115,000. $75,000 - $80,000 base salary, and 30% fringe benefits.
