Advisor

NYC Opportunity manages a dedicated annual Innovation Fund and works collaboratively with City agencies and other partners to create, implement, and oversee a range of anti-poverty programs, policies, and research projects. NYC Opportunity’s in-house evaluation team works with nationally recognized, independent evaluation firms and City agencies to rigorously measure program impacts and provide objective evidence to inform decisions of whether to replicate, eliminate, or scale up programs. NYC Opportunity partners with several units within the Mayor’s Office and City government to execute special projects such as Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), the Children’s Cabinet, Office of ThriveNYC, and the implementation of Executive Order 45 (EO45).

NYC Opportunity is searching for an Advisor to support the work of its Programs and Evaluation team. The Advisor will help to coordinate the design, implementation, program management, performance monitoring and evaluation for multiple NYC Opportunity initiatives and projects. In addition, the Advisor will contribute to the implementation of the citywide equity strategy created by EO45. The Advisor will have familiarity with program design and management, evaluation, research, and public policy related to poverty and equity.


  Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with NYC Opportunity program leads to support the oversight and management of programs, evaluations, and special projects in the NYC Opportunity and YMI portfolios; support work with City agencies, evaluation firms and other partner organizations to develop and implement project work plans and budgets, and to prepare internal and public-facing deliverables.
  • Work with NYC Opportunity program leads to ensure development of appropriate metrics and targets across full portfolio; analyze performance data to monitor City agency progress in implementing programs and special projects; ensure data quality.
  • Support development and management of strategy for dissemination of evaluation findings and other lessons learned to various constituencies; work with NYC Opportunity program leads to support and track dissemination activities.
  • Respond to rapid research requests and participate in the preparation of summary data reports, case studies, and research briefs on program operations, best practices, evidence-based policy, and related topics for senior leadership, NYC Opportunity staff and external partners.
  • Support the development of new programs and policy initiatives, and identify and pursue funding opportunities for the expansion of NYC Opportunity and YMI initiatives.
  • Develop and foster productive working partnerships with policymakers, government agencies and departments, and partner organizations.
  • Engage agency partners and external audiences including policymakers through helping to organize meetings, conference presentations and other events.
  • Execute special projects as necessary.

Familiarity with anti-poverty policies and programs. Experience in government, and familiarity. with New York City communities a plus.

  Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree + at least one year relevant work experience.

Experience in government a plus.
