UI Development Fellow

The application window for the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity Fellowships is now open!

The UI Development Fellowship with the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity's Product and Engineering team is an opportunity to grow your expertise in creating digital services and applications to help improve the lives of millions of New Yorkers. We are seeking individuals with an interest in improving our current digital services, prototyping new applications, and participating in the New York City civic technology community, using a human-centered, iterative, data-driven approach. Fellows will gain an understanding of working within the New York City Government and learn more about the initiatives of the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity. Projects will focus on the delivery, on-going success, and continuous improvement of government services.

Fellowships are paid positions with a minimum of three days/week commitment starting September 2019 through December 2019.

  Responsibilities

Based on your skills and interests, responsibilities will include some but not all of the below:

  • Collaborate with teammates to design, develop, prototype and test major features, new applications, services, and enhancements for our digital products.
  • Lead discussions and communications on our work and/or modern product design that can be integrated into our process.
  • Participate in planning meetings and daily stand ups.
  • Contribute to our growing collection of open source repositories on Github within the City of New York Organization.

  Education and Experience

Fellowships are open to undergraduate, graduate, developer bootcamp or other training program students,recent graduates and professional.

Note that all applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to provide sponsorship to fellows.

  Skills We're Seeking

Commitment to the mission of advancing greater equality and opportunity through best-in-class digital products and human-centered design practices in government.

Experience with Design Systems, front-end frameworks, HTML/CSS, JavaScript.

Experience with static website development.

Design skills including user interface design, iconography, and rapid prototyping.

Experience with UI design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite or Framer.

Experience with Git, Github or other versioning systems is a plus.
