Training and Outreach Apprenticeship

The Product team within the Mayor's Office for Economic Opportunity (NYC Opportunity) develops best-in-class digital products utilizing human-centered design practices in government.

The Training and Outreach Apprenticeship with our team is an opportunity to use communication and outreach strategy to increase our digital products' impact and help improve the lives of millions of New Yorkers. The apprenticeship with will focus on increasing visibility to our digital products ACCESS NYC, Growing Up NYC, and Generation NYC.

Apprenticeships are paid part-time positions starting September 2019 through December 2019 with the option to extend up to six months.


Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in user research related to development of online training.
  • Assist in defining training feature and functionality requirements.
  • Develop online trainings for our digital products.
  • Create multimedia assets and content related to online training.
  • Assist in community outreach opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve NYC Opportunity’s outreach approach.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  Education and Experience

Apprenticeships are open to current students and recent graduates with an undergraduate degree or higher related to communications, community health, education, social work, or social innovation.

Prior community-based outreach or community based engagement experience and familiarity with public assistance systems strongly preferred.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to provide sponsorship to fellows.

Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in writing and orally.

Ability to develop content and multi-media training assets (including videos, audio, quizzes, demonstrations) for self-taught online training.

Client focused, committed to rapid execution, strategic and flexible.

Dedicated to ensuring training and outreach curriculum design reflects best practices of online training.

Interest in using plain language to help residents access and interact with government services.
