Java Developer

As part of the Technology Team, the Java Developer will maintain and expand our current digital products, and create new digital offerings. The team leverages existing City technology assets and systems, and also works in an agile, iterative way to build new digital services, collaborating closely with the Design, Data, and Product teams.


  • Use technology solutions to solve business problems.
  • Contribute to new technology projects as assigned and provide operations & maintenance support for existing applications.
  • Develop custom code and web services that allow seamless integration between systems.
  • Unit test newly developed code and support system testing efforts.
  • Be responsible for working with City’s Cyber Command unit to pass application security accreditation.
  • Troubleshoot errors, defects and other system issues.
  • Maintain system document and source code repositories.
  • Support the team director and fellow team members as projects are assigned.

  Skills We're Seeking

Expert experience with scripting and passionate about automation.

At least 3-5 years of experience developing Java/J2EE web-based applications.

Strong knowledge of SDLC, JAVA, J2SE, J2EE, JDK, XML/XSLT, CSS, JavaScript and AJAX, SQL, Spring MVC, Oracle WebLogic Application Server, Oracle iPlanet Web Server, SiteMinder, Web Services

Experience using SQL Developer and SQL Plus.

Basic understanding of ETL processes and scheduled automated processes.

Experience developing applications in n-tier environments.

Strong problem-solving skills and passion for learning new technologies.

Experience with an agile, iterative development process and version control tools such as Git, GitHub, Subversion.

Strong collaboration with design, technology, and business team members.

  Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in technology or equivalent preferred with 3-5 years of professional experience.
